Beaches and culture between Veneto and Friuli
Houseboat itineraries
Houseboat itineraries
This makes it the ideal choice if you want to avoid the hassle of heading back halfway through the holiday, and means you can visit many more places instead. This itinerary is perfect for those who want a boat experience in the open air, with endless choices: every day, you can enjoy a swim at a different beach and visit a different cultural center. This one-way cruise takes you between fishing villages and lagoons, with straightforward cruising through low-traffic canals.
The itinerary includes a monumental archaeological area, and it is also possible to make a quick detour into the Venice Lagoon for one or two nights max., so as not to miss out on the chance to see a city that is unique in the world.
In terms of landscape and nature the territory is very varied, switching from canals to lagoons and rivers. The landscape never remains constant and the scenery changes hourly. Navigation is easy, free of water traffic, with good availability of moorings (including free ones).
The spearhead of this itinerary is the town of Caorle, with its colorful pedestrianized historic center and its long beaches, which can be reached by bike or on foot from a mooring near the center. The majestic fishing marshes surrounding the center can be visited by boat in complete peace and quiet. Going a little further inland, you arrive in Concordia Sagittaria, an ancient Roman port with one of the oldest monumental archaeological areas in Italy; a real open-air museum. The nearby Portogruaro is also worth a visit for the beauty of its historic center, crossed by the river.
The view passes quickly from the canal to the marshes and then from the lagoon to the sea. There are very few navigation locks and bridges, and these are often totally open. Lignano and Jesolo are the two most famous seaside resorts to moor at and spend a couple of evenings enjoying the summer nightlife, from clubs to live music to shows. If you’d rather explore smaller villages, just turn the bow towards Marano Lagunare, Cortellazzo and San Donà di Piave. The best compromise is to alternate between social and quiet evenings so there’s something to suit every member of the crew.
This itinerary is also perfect for those without much navigation experience who want to cruise in more peaceful and protected stretches of water. If you like, we can transfer your car to the new port, so it’s available upon your arrival, or organize a private transfer to the departure base, which is about 1 hour away.
This itinerary cannot be completed in less than 5 days, which is the minimum time to be able to sail from the Houseboat base in Casale sul Sile to that of Precenicco, or vice versa.
